I have lived in Calgary since 1992 and have watched many fabric stores come and go. Here is a current list of stores in Calgary and links to their hours. These are stores that I have been to, so if there are more you would recommend for the Calgary shopper please comment!
Fabricland Northland Mall
Conveniently open mall hours. Usually has 50% sales for members usually around the long weekends. Another sale to look for is the “Buy 1 get 2,3,4 free”.
Addies Creative Fabrics (Cochrane) – I live in the far northwest area of Calgary, so Cochrane is only a 20 minute drive away. The last time I went to this store there were Anna Maria Horner fabrics here, but I’m not sure if that is still the case.
Bhatia Cloth House
Went here to find some material for satin for some dance costumes and found some at really great prices. You can find fashion fabrics here ranging from 2.99 -12.99+. Some cottons, polyesters, laces, chiffons and silks. Will have some precut for Indian suits 3.5 yds.
In the middle of industrial buildings off 32nd Ave. NE, you will find this store and is jam-packed with fabric. Much of the fabric is home decor, but they also have everything from sports nylons, fleece, few quilting cottons. Huge selection of trims and elastics are available, but you need alot of time to sort through everything they have.
Fabricland (Elbow Drive)
I will often go to this Fabricland location as they will often put their out of season quilting cottons in their Bargain Centre and then have 50% sales on their Bargain Centre. This means quilting cotton for $2.50/m…which is an incredible price to beat!
Out of Hand
This quilting store carries the most modern fabric lines in Calgary…so if you are looking for Cotton+Steel, Kaffe Fasset, Liberty of London, Robert Kauffman this is the place to go to! They don’t usually have sales, but prices are comparible with getting fabric shipped from the US.
My Sewing Room
My Sewing Room has an excellent selection of quilting cottons, laminated fabric, embroidery stabilizers, embroidery and quilting accessories. They have a customer loyalty program and also have sales where fabric can be up to 50% off – Their website shows their selection of fabric and prices. They also have great hours – M-F 9:30-9pm; Sat 9:30-5pm; Sun 11:00-5pm
Along Came Quilting
Nestled behind the Home Depot by Chinook Mall is Along Came Quilting. They also sell fabric online, so if you know what you are looking for and see it on-line, you can order it on-line then pick it up!
This store is the furthest east you can get Mainly has fashion fabrics with a large selection of uncut and precut coordinating fabric to make an Indian saree/suit. Also a selection of sportswear fabric as seen on their website.
Fabricland Fisher Road
This Fabricland has the largest physical space as it is in a warehouse, but sometimes hard to park and has limited hours.
A Sewing Sensation
Across the street from Fabricland on Fisher Road is A Sewing Sensation. Every summer they have a fabric sale up to 40%. They have a huge selection of quilting cottons from a variety of designers.
This Fabricland store is very cramped but probably is the least picked over store when it comes to quilting cottons.
